Abstract

The interesting article by Nielsen et al raises some concerns [1]. Firstly, gastrointestinal motility is not only due to autonomic denervation, but also to various other influencing factors. These include the duration of gastrointestinal symptoms, dietary habits, food composition, state of the microbiome, gender, level of physical activity and varying tolerance of the test food. These influencing factors should be included in the analysis to avoid false positive/negative results.
